14. Wind

Wind is one of those things in life that you simply can't control no matter how hard you try. You can attempt to predict the strength, speed and direction of the wind but that's kind of it. It forces you to experience it whether you want to or not, and sometimes I think if wind had a soul and a mind it might go around intentionally ruining the hair of everyone it could just for a laugh.

(And really, the other kind of wind forces you to smell things you certainly didn't want to smell.
Yes I went there.)

By now, you may be thinking 'wow, thanks Captain Obvious!' and I may have even earned a salute for that (thanks by the way) but think about it for a second. How many things are there in life these days that are completely and utterly out of your control no matter what you do?

We control how we look, how we feel (some may argue only to a certain degree, but that's a can of worms for another day), how we eat, what we wear, where we go, what we study, what we like, who we're around. We've even had a fair go at controlling the weather, what with the expensive heating and cooling systems you can buy these days that make you feel like it's winter in the middle of summer.

We as humans are incredibly obsessed with control! We can't handle the idea of someone or something having control over us, there's no way we'd willingly give control of our lives over to anyone, because we know best! Of course we know best! Right?
Maybe?
Maybe not?
We fight so hard for equal opportunities and equal rights and get incredibly defensive if we think for even a second that someone's trying to control what we do or who we are. I think that sometimes though we tend to fight so hard for some things that we forget what we're fighting for, or more importantly, the significance of what we're fighting for and why we're fighting to get it.

I'm not an expert on anything to do with equal rights, I just know a lot of protests have been happening and have gathered that equal rights is the reason for at least some, but I feel like we've gone from wanting everyone to be equal to making sure that no one anywhere has any power to tell us what to do, because it's my life and I'll live it the way I want.

I don't know. Maybe I'm thinking this way because I just learnt about post modernism. It seems to unintentionally be affecting my writing at the moment.

Really, this attitude is just another facet of people that makes me think people are just so darn fascinating. We're so ready to rebel all the time. I feel like we need to bring trust falls back or something, learn to trust those around us more.
